Happy Mother's Day

"You are ruining my life!  You are wrecking any chance at all for me to have a normal, happy childhood!  I may not live through the torture that you are inflicting on me!" ~ Darling Daughter

Poor Darling Daughter!  Doesn't she look miserable posing in front of her mirror in her very messy bedroom?  In fact, I think this trauma has clearly done some real damage.  You can easily tell that from her pitiful, rotten face that scowls at everyone all day long.

Seriously, DD is the happiest, carefree girl anyone has ever met.  She is constantly smiling and bubbling with enthusiasm about everything life has to offer.

However, there is one subject that can make this girl cry real crocodile tears and/or get huffy.

A CELL PHONE

You see, Darling Daughter is the only 12 year old in her entire class, wait...I mean... in her entire school...no scratch that....in the entire WORLD...without a cell phone.

I am the cruelest Mom in the world.  Happy Mother's day to me, by the way.

In fact, the subject of a cell phone is off limits.  It really is not allowed to even be talked about anymore.  I cannot stand the tears, or the frown, therefore she knows where I stand and it doesn't need to be discussed anymore!  Subject is closed.

However, the other day, while riding in the car, Darling Daughter said, "417".

417?  an area code?  an address of a friend? number of loads of laundry I do in a month?

NOPE!  It would be the number of days until she "thinks" she is getting a cell phone.  You see her brother, Stud Boy, got a cell phone the last day of 8th grade.  Therefore DD thinks she will be getting one then too.  In fact, she tells me I told her that.  Ummm...did I?  If I did, did I say it would be one that only has the ability to call 911 and me?  Well, that made her dissolve into a puddle of crocodile tears.

Which is why we just don't need to bring up the subject...at least for 417 days!
